Gardening Tips for Spring

Get those tomato plants in the ground now for fresh tasty home grown tomatoes before Christmas.
Remember to grow tomatoes in a different spot in the garden each season to help prevent spread of the many tomato diseases that affect them. Start spraying regularly with a good insecticide/fungicide mixture from when the plants are young.
Fertilize regularly with Organic Life garden food for great results.
Try some of the new varieties available now such as the "Truss Tomato" or old favourites such as "Grosse Lisse"
Aerate the lawn with a fork and apply some lawn fertilizer such as "Munn's Greenup." This is the best lawn feed on the market as it will last the whole season slowly releasing fertilizer as the grass requires it.
Some "Saturaid" wetting agent will help water to penetrate when the hot weather hits later in the month.
Prune Azaleas and Camellias once they have finished flowering to promote dense bushy growth and better flowering next season. Feed with Azalea and Camellia food and mulch well with sugar cane mulch.
Trim out any old weak growth from your citrus trees and fertilize with citrus food. A good mulch should be applied now as well.
Spray your roses regularly from now on to control black spot and powdery mildew which can make the bushes sick and unproductive.
Vegetables to plant now include tomatoes, lettuce, beans, corn, silver beet, beetroot, celery, carrots, zuchini, squash and pumpkins.
Flowers to plant now include petunias, dahlias, snapdragon, lobelia, marigold, alyssum, dianthus, phlox and a host of others.
Make sure to place some snail bait around newly planted seedlings as the snails will clean the lot up in one night. If you have pets use a pet friendly bait such as "Maxicrop."
Prune bottlebrush and other natives lightly after flowering to promote
